Providing a fascinating insight into the rebirth and early development of what has become one of the country's leading tourist attractions, this programme tells the story of the Severn Valley Railway using original personal 8mm cine film of some early members and visitors. It shows how a group of young enthusiasts had a dream and, against all the odds, made that dream a reality.
Scenes include the last days of BR steam at Hartlebury, Bewdley, Foley Park and Kidderminster; the special on 19th Sept 1965 featuring 3442 The Great Marquess, and 1420 and 4555 which are seen on the main line and the Severn Valley branch as far north as Alverley sidings; the first visit to the derelict line in July 1965 of the newly formed Society and early scenes at Bridgnorth, Hampton Loade, Highley and Bewdley. 3205 is seen at Stourbridge shed and arriving at Bridgnorth. This is followed later by the arrival of 46443, Railcar No 22 in BR green livery and, in 1968, 43106. Many of the weekend events are featured and unusual movements of locos and stock are also seen.
The DVD contains an informative commentary set to authentic sounds and wonderful theme music. It concludes with events of the weekend of May 23rd 1970 which featured the reopening train and first official steam passenger service from Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade. |

Filmed in the period 1998-2002, this programme is full of stunning images of steam trains in ideal lighting and weather conditions on one of Britain's most scenic preserved railway lines. Mainly filmed in deep winter, it features some of the rarest snow scenes ever captured on the Severn Valley Railway in its 30 year history and includes many authentic GW branch line sequences.
Besides the lineside action, there are three musical sequences which complement the grandeur and beauty of the Valley and the image of steam trains in the winter landscape.
Locos featured are:
GW Mogul 7325
LMS Black Five 45110

BR 9F 92212
LMS 8F 44873
LMS Ivatt 2 46443

1993 Severn Valley Collection
This is a collection of high quality material taken during 1993 and early 1994. Highlights include a stunning sequence featuring 4F 4422 on a private LMS freight train when the weather was perfection, and some outstanding sequences taken around Christmas and New Year.
1994 Severn Valley Collection
The 94 collection has a definite branch line feel to it. That is not to say that main line locos are not well represented with shots of GWR 6024 King Edward I, 5029 Nunney Castle and a glimpse of old LNER favourites 60009 Union of South Africa and 60103 Flying Scotsman. Whereas in past editions Santa and New Year trains have provided special high points in terms of weather conditions and lighting, in 1994 the Spring and Autumn in particular came up trumps in providing some very rare and satisfying moments. More variety on this tape is provided by the night time sequences. |
