Previously titled Symphony of Steam.
In this programme we look back at 30 years of preserved steam on the main lines of the Western Highlands. The programme contains a wealth of stunning shots of the locomotives hard at work, and blends beautiful Celtic themes with the grandeur and beautiful scenery that abounds. As well as the line from Fort William, we also feature the beautiful Inverness-Kyle line where we see Black Five 44871. This sequence features cameras on the train, locomotive and at the lineside.
The story begins with a look at 673 Maude running in 1984 when we captured the action from behind the tender of the locomotive as it worked from Fort William to Glenfinnan. This unique footage is some of the rarest ever taken on the line. We continue through 1988 and 1989 where we see 3442 The Great Marquess. It was the first time the K4 had been back at Fort William since 1961. Other locomotives featured are B1 61264, K1 62005, Black Fives 45407, 44871 and 5305, plus 61994 The Great Marquess running in BR lined black livery. We also take a footplate ride from Fort William to Glenfinnan on Black Five 44871.
There are also stunning scenes on the West Highland main line at Carrour, where the nearest road is 10 miles away, and at dramatic Horseshoe curve on the climb to County March Summit.
Locos featured are:

K4 3442 The Great Marquess
Black Fives 45407, 44871, 5305
